Picture That’s Museum Debut

October 5, 2017

Celebrating the success of two new exhibitions at Norwalk Historical Society--and Picture That's first museum installation.

Colleagues, community members, government officials and friends joined us on September 28 for the Grand Opening of Norwalk Historical Society's Fall Exhibitions:

  • New Deal, New Day: WPA Artists at Work and Play (Guest Curator: Valerie Cooper, Principal, Picture That, LLC)

  • Destination Norwalk: African-American Migration from the South, 1940-1970 (Guest Curator: Kathleen Motes Bennewitz).

Since Picture That started in 2002, the company has garnered a national reputation for providing a full range of art consulting services to Fortune 500 companies and a variety of healthcare, financial and hospitality facilities as well as academic institutions. New Deal, New Day: WPA Artists at Work and Play marks the company's entry into the museum sector.

Thus far, the feedback has been excellent, and we can confidently assess that our goal to re-introduce Justine Gruelle’s controversial “Steamboat Days on the Mississippi” mural, along with his complete works in the series; and also showcase the visual arts components of the Works Progress Administration period as a whole, has been successfully accomplished. Picture That is honored to have had the opportunity to work with the amazing staff at NHS, Diane Jellerette, Executive Director and David Westmoreland, a member of the Board of Directors.

It is our hope that the public will visit the NHS and truly appreciate the impressive role the Norwalk Historical Society plays in preserving the region’s significant history.

We look forward to future forays into the museum world.
