Old State House
Hartford, CT

The Old State House is the oldest state house in America. In 1878, when the state government moved to a new state capitol, the “old” state house was then redecorated and repurposed to serve as Hartford's City Hall until 1915. Numerous times in the intervening century, the Old State House has been threatened with demolition and, every time, citizens have joined together to save it through donations of both time and money.

Today, the Old State House celebrates democracy and citizenship with unique exhibits, historic rooms and over 22,000 square feet for people of all ages to explore. The Old State House is open to the public. Guided and self-guided tours are available on weekends.
